How to decide whether or not to give away a pet.
I have two cats, one named Carmel and one named Tux. Carmel doesn’t like Tux very much. We are thinking of giving away Tux because of that. My knee jerk reaction was let’s give Tux away if Carmel is going to be happy. But after about an hour of thinking about it, I realized that maybe we should keep Tux. The two have gotten closer.
It used to be that Carmel would hiss, spit and try to knock Tux out of the way, even if Tux was behind the fence. Tux is a black and white kitten, small and cute. Now Tux is able to pass within paws reach with Carmel getting mad at him. But if he tries to talk face to face with Carmel, the old boy will spit, hiss, and try to knock Tux out of the way.
My mom and dad have brought up the situation and I am having a really hard time deciding if we should keep Carmel. Tux is just a little thing. I don’t want to lose him. I know he drives Dad nuts when he walks into the bedroom when Dad is sleeping, but I know Dad loves him and so do I.
Carmel used to play a lot, he now has arthritis, and doesn’t play anymore very much. He allows us to pet him and hold him, but that’s about it. Tux still loves to play. I watch him chase his tail; he’s a miniature dog that way. He plays with Mom’s shoelaces, and anything that he has found to be fun, he will play with.
The downside to having Tux is that scratches up the furniture. He’s an insidie and outside cat, otherwise we’d have him declawed. That is the only downside I can think of off the top of my head.
I guess we’ll know in a few days. If we keep Tux, Carmel may desert us. Either way, it’s a tough decision. Tux is a newbie just coming into his prime. I’m sure we’ll know in a while.
